5 Favorite Dog Walking Spots in OKC

With summer weather fading and fall coming on, we’re spending more and more time just taking quick walks to get some light exercise in with the girls and Bean. Here are five of our favorite walking spots in the Oklahoma City Metro

1.) Lake Thunderbird
I know Lake Thunderbird has a variety of nicknames, not all of them attractive, but it is probably our most frequented dog friendly walking spot. We love to hit up the Lake Thunderbird Dam located off of Highway 9 for a quick walk, or explore one of the many trails. Luckily they vary in length from under a mile, to over 10 miles! Hog Creek Trail is a weekday favorite when we have just about an hour between lessons or other chores. It’s 2.8 miles and considered an easy loop.

2.) Bluff Creek Park
For those of us located in Norman or southern OKC this can be a bit of a drive, but its hard to beat the beauty of Bluff Creek Park. Located close to Lake Hefner at 11301 N Meridian Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73120, Bluff Creek Park offers several paved and dirt trails. It’s especially nice in the fall and spring evenings where you’ll occasionally catch sight of a herd of deer. If you have high prey drive dogs, I definitely recommend keeping a firm grip on their leash at all time just in case they decide to attempt to chase one of the many little critters running around.

3.) Sutton Wilderness Park
Located off of 12th Ave NE in Norman is Sutton Wilderness Park. It’s a short walking trail with tons of shade during the spring and summer time, as well as a pond for those pups who like to swim. It is a busy trail, and requires all pets to be leashed.

4.) Veterans Memorial Park
Located at 1900 SE 4th Street in Moore you have Veterans Memorial Park. Family friendly with a playground and a creek that we’ve seen several turtles and ducks at, this is another of our favorites. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area!

5.) Reaves Park
In Norman at 2501 Jenkins Ave you’ll find Reaves park. With walking/jogging trails, picnic tables, and playground equipment, there is something for everyone!
